Swan Stabilisers are working with the Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberly and GHD to conduct pavement trials at the Kununurra airport.
The Shire is seeking a long-term solution for the irregular surface of a runway strip. These construction trials, together with ongoing geotechnical and pavement investigation, will assess the technical and economic feasibility of selected rectification options.
The work involves the construction of eight trial pads of some 25m x 30 each. A different pavement structure and construction methodology is planned for each area. We have also assisted in the installation of control and test sensors at various locations.
The construction trials are:
» Control construction
» Mechanical stabilisation (crusher dust) construction
» Mechanical stabilisation (river shingle) construction
» Lime stabilisation 5% construction
» Lime stabilisation 10% construction
» Moisture content control – granular overlay construction
» Moisture content – geofabric construction
» High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) construction.
